ProgrammingWeekly Meetings
Weekly meetings form the core of the Brotherhood and Sisterhood program. At school, students gather with peers and mentors to discuss various topics and hear from outside speakers. Discussions are designed to empower students and encourage them to be active in designing their futures. Key topics include respect, responsibility, attitude, work ethic, loyalty and positive thinking. Learn more about our curriculum. One-on-Ones with your Mentor One-on-one meetings with a mentor allow a safe way for students to ask questions and engage in discussion. The mentors know what is happening in a student's life and works with them on how to respond to the challenges and opportunities that are presented. Meetings are short and unstructured, allowing for organic conversation. Often, though, discussions are related to the most recent topic in weekly sessions. |
OpportunitiesCollege/Career Tours
College and career tours give students the opportunity to truly see the opportunities that exist for them. Many students don't know anyone who has taken the college or technical career path. These trips make it real and help them focus their school efforts. Visits have included Prairie View A&M, Butler Community College, Oklahoma State University, Niche Culinary Institute, Cox Machine Inc., and more. SERVICE LEARNING PROGRAMS Community Engagement In addition to weekly sessions, our staff organizes service learning projects. These projects cultivate the sense of self-worth and self-esteem that comes from helping others. The students read to younger students, work at the Kansas Food Bank, conduct food and clothing drives, and develop and participate in events to commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and more. |
