Many students go off to college, trade school, or the workforce without the items they need to succeed. Tell them they belong.
Adopt-A-Senior Today!

How to Adopt-A-Senior

Picture
Thank you for your interest in Adopt-A-Senior! The goal with our Adopt-A-Senior program is to ease our student's transition from high school to post-secondary education or the workforce. As a volunteer, we request that you purchase the recommended list of items for a senior student. You may also include any additional items that you believe could be useful for them during their transition, such as food gift cards or books. If you feel inclined, you may also write the student a note of encouragement or include an inspirational or devotional book. We want to remind you that your gift is tax-deductible. If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to contact Bri Houston at bhouston@riseupforyouth.org.

Donations must be delivered to Rise Up For Youth offices by 4:00 pm CST on May 19, 2023. Thank you for your support of our students!

How It Started

Picture
Years ago, Lynn Gilkey accompanied a first-generation college student to get her settled into her new dorm. The student pulled out all she had brought, tattered bedding and a few toiletries.
Picture
Glancing to the other side of the room, Lynn saw a personalized space with colorful bedding, a decorative rug, and many personal effects. The contrast was jarring.
Picture
She saw the shame on her student's face where there should have been the pride of accomplishment. Lynn sensed the apprehension as her student considered whether she truly belonged at college.
At that moment, Lynn decided none of her students would go to college empty-handed.
Show these students they belong. Adopt-A-Senior today!
